Carlisle,
Jerry G. Sparks, 82, of Carlisle, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home on March 22 under the care of VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
He was born March 2, 1940 in Terre Haute to Vern and Juanita (Sanders) Sparks, both preceding him in death. Jerry graduated from Pimento High School in 1958, Bachelor’s in 1962, and received his Master of Science degree from ISU in 1968. He taught at Sullivan High School for 33 years. He also enjoyed coaching basketball and golf for many years.
He served as president for the local and state Indiana Teacher and Retired Teacher Associations. He was a life member of the Elks; participated in Sullivan Optimist, Lion’s, and Jaycee’s clubs. He was a 25-year member of Vincennes First Baptist Church where he served on the board of trustees, taught the Family Circle class, and sang in the choir. After his retirement in 1995 he had several parttime jobs locally plus substitute taught. He also loved remodeling his home.
He leaves his loving wife of 28 years Patricia (Thompson) Sparks and daughter Kim Sparks of Terre Haute; his stepchildren Twain (Elizabeth) of Boonville, Sean (Sarah) of Sullivan and Amy Goings of Sullivan; grandchildren Rusty, Hayleigh, Cecilia, Connor, Morgan, Gage, Madison, and Lucien, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Ambulance Training Center at 102 S. Alexander Street in Carlisle. Holmes Memorial Chapel were entrusted with arrangements.
