Joan Yavonne Crooks

Joan (Joni) Yvonne Crooks, went home with Jesus, Monday,  October 18, 2021. Born to Thomas Job White and Mary Ann (Barron) White, in Shelburn IN, where she lived nearly all her life.

She attended Shelburn High School through grade 11. She was a Basketball “PANTHERS” Cheerleader and involved in nearly every club, plus an Honor Roll Student. However, she was a first graduate of the new North Central High School in Farmersburg IN. Joni remained a loyal NC fan and enjoyed her grandkid’s games.

Joni was a faithful member of Shelburn Church of God and a Youth Sunday Teacher. In later life, she was a member of The Shelburn Methodist Church until her passing.

Joan married Jack Nelson Crooks and became an awesome homemaker. She was a waitress at Steinhall’s, worked at Columbia Records and finally became an employe with Pfizer until she retired after 43 years. She performed with the Pfizer Player group and did shows for Veterans. She loved arts and crafts, yard work, shopping for herself but mostly for others and heading up Old Fashioned Day Events, especially children fishing time, Big Wheel race and church floats.

Joan was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers: Thomas William White, David Gray Barron and James Robert Barron; a sister Mary Ellen Barron Winsted.

Survivors are her beloved son, Billy Jack (Brook); grandchildren Hope, Hayden, Anna and Adam, brother Frederick Barron and his wife Vanetta, numerous nieces and nephews plus other family members and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 22, 2021 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Norman Santus officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Little Flock Cemetery at a later date.
