On Sunday, June 21, 2020 Karla Jean (Keller) Bender, of Shelburn, fell into the open arms of Jesus. Karla was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on February 23, 1965 to Thomas Keller and MaryAnn (Norris) Keller. Both of whom preceded her in death.
Karla graduated from Shakamak High School in 1983, and became an LPN in 1995, graduating from Ivy Tech, Terre Haute. She worked in a hospital setting for 5 years, but her true passion was caring for the elderly. Karla spent most of her nursing career in long term care facilities.
Karla had 5 children, two of which she acquired upon marrying Mark Bender, who survives. Andrew Keller, Kelsey Baker, Courtney Bender, and Brandon Bender all survive, as do Karla’s 4 grandbabies, who were the light of her life: Gunnar Baker, Avery Dooley, Charleigh Traylor, and Leighton Keller. Parker Baker, Kelsey’s twin brother, preceded Karla in death in 2019.
Karla had three siblings: Lori Anne (Keller) Winings (Bill), and Scott Keller survive Karla. Karla’s younger sister Kristi (Keller) Schloesser and her husband Bill both passed in 2019.
