Laura Joyce Monk

Laura Joyce Monk, 92 of Sullivan passed away on Wednesday May 25, 2022 with her loving daughter by her side. She was born in Sullivan County on December 22, 1929 to William Clarence Murdock and Mary Katherine (Vail) Murdock. Joyce was a 1947 graduate of Graysville High School, she then went to Indianapolis to become a Beautician and had worked for over 69 years. She also became a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a friend to all of the people that she knew. Joyce was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Richard “Dick” Monk, the love of her life whom she was married to for 58 years, a son Les Monk, a brother Lynn Murdock and a grandson Casey Gettinger. 

Survivors include her daughter Marsha Monk and her companion Paul Hoffner of Sullivan, daughter in-law Cindy Byrne, grandchildren, Marcy Ann Zunk, Katelynn Kennedy, Jason Gettinger, Cody Gettinger, Christian Monk, Taylor Monk, Conner Monk, Mason Monk, several great grandchildren several nieces and nephews and other family and friends. 

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 1, 2022, at Holmes Memorial chapel with Pastor Eddie Hammond officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.
