Luellen "Lu" Sue (Evans) Chowning

Luellen Sue Chowning “Lu”, 76, of Fairbanks, passed away on May 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 10, 1947 to Allen Evans and Edith (Harryman) Evans.  Lu was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. She was a faithful child of Christ and called First Baptist Church of Shelburn her church home.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. 

 
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years Mike Chowning whom she married on April 5, 1975; her sons Paul Johns and his wife Kathi; Jim Chowning and his wife Kelly; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other family members.  

Services will be on Thursday June, 1, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Shelburn, with pastor Ben Wetherington officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm with services at 1:00 pm, followed by burial at Pogue Cemetery.  Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lu’s honor to the First Baptist Church of Shelburn.
