Maggie May Davis, 102, of Carlisle, passed away June 15, 2019, at Breckenridge Assisted Living in Sullivan. She was born on the family farm in southern Sullivan County on December 25, 1916, to R. Willard and Maggie May Starner Davis. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1934 and from Indiana State Teachers College in 1938. She taught elementary school in Elkhart, Indianapolis, Virginia Beach, and Atlanta. She married James William (Bill) Davis of Merom in 1943 and was by his side until his death in 2004. She lived in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, and Georgia as her husband was transferred to new job assignments. She returned to Carlisle following her husband's death and enjoyed being home again among family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents R. Willard Davis and Maggie May Davis; four of her seven siblings, Mary Nash, Lon Davis, R.W. Davis, and Martha Sue Davis; her husband, James William Davis; and a grandson, Timothy Davis. Surviving are her sons Michael (Carolyn) Davis of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, and Charles Davis of Carlisle; her brothers John Davis of Carlisle, James (Vivian) Davis of Denver, Colorado, and Michael Davis of Green Valley, Arizona; grandchildren Christopher (Robin) Davis of Haymarket, Virginia, Brian (Amy) Davis of Vacaville, California, and Robert (Laura) Davis of Richardson, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 21, 2019, at Holmes Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Carlisle Ambulance Services, PO Box 206 Carlisle IN, 47838. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
