Mary Vanetta Sue Barron, 85, passed away at her residence on Thursday, June 29, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Barron was born in Sullivan County, Indiana on January 22, 1938 and was the daughter of the late George & Sadie Lynn Reeves. She attended Indiana State College and married her husband, Frederick Osburne Barron, nearly 67 years ago on August 12, 1956, in Shelburn, Indiana. She moved to the St. Augustine area in 1971 where she lived until 1978 when she and her family moved to Jacksonville. She spent her life nurturing children as an elementary grade teacher at Bethesda Christian Academy, Southside Estates Academy, New Covenant Day School and The Country School, all in Jacksonville. Mrs. Barron was an ordained minister with the Church of God. Her joy was in serving God as a member of North Jacksonville Church of God, 7600 Kenya Street (I-95 & Edgewood), where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023, with Pastor James Hull officiating. Her family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service.
Mrs. Barron was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Donald Reeves and George Reeves, Jr, son-in-law Paul Anderson, Sr. and grandson Paul Anderson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick; 4 children: Keith Barron (Joretta), Kevin Barron (Vikki), Fred O. Barron, Jr. (Elyse) and May Anderson; 2 sisters: Joan Worley and Emma Lou Ahlfield.; 7 grandchildren: Josh Barron, Heather Barron, Elizabeth Fox, Fred Barron, III, Cairis Barron, Amy Young and Kelly McCalip; 5 great grandchildren Travis Barron, Ely McCalip, Rylynn Young, Daniel Young and Anna Young as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Little Flock Cemetery with Pastor Norman Santus officiating. Family will gather at 10:00 a.m. at Holmes Memorial Chapel.
