Michael Bledsoe Obituary

 

Michael D Bledsoe, of Sullivan passed away on February 26, 2020 in Sullivan.  He was born in Sullivan, IN to Harold Bledsoe and Eleanor Dudley Bledsoe. He was married to Karen Cox Bledsoe for 57 years and she survives. 

 

Mike graduated from Sullivan High School in 1960; received his Batchelor of Science Degree from Indiana State University; Master in Education from Ball State University; and then a Specialist Degree from Indiana State University.  

 

Mike started his teaching in Richmond Community School System; then after 3 years he returned to Sullivan County as a teacher/principal for the Northeast School Corporation retiring after 25 years as an Administrator at both Farmersburg Elementary and North Central High School in Farmersburg. He was selected for Indiana’s First Principal Leadership Academy. He served on the Indiana State Alumni Board. Mike was a member of Farmersburg Town Council and for a time was the Town’s Clerk Treasurer. He was a member of the Farmersburg Volunteer Fire Department and on their Fire Board. Mike was a member of SUCCEED, the original economic development group for Sullivan County. He was selected as a Sullivan County Torchbearer for the Bicentennial.

 

Mike was very active in the Farmersburg Boy Scouts; Minor League and Little League Baseball Programs and was very instrumental in re-establishing the girl’s softball program. He worked tirelessly to see the George Heap Park developed and built for the community. He served as the announcer for years at North Central Football games.

 

Surviving are his wife, Karen; one son, Cary (Connie) Bledsoe of Loogootee, one daughter, Cindy (Raymond) Ferree of Sullivan; two grandchildren, Evan Ferree and Hayley Ferree, Sullivan, and several cousins.

 

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Kelley Lyn Bledsoe, and a sister, Susan Bledsoe.

 

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. at the Farmersburg Elementary School Gymnasium. Burial will follow at the Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, IN.

 

Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, IN from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to The Kelley L. Bledsoe Memorial Scholarship at any First Financial Bank, the Thunderbird Volunteer Fire Department, or Farmersburg Friends of the Park. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
