Michael Chowning

Michael J. Chowning, 85, (Fairbanks & Terre Haute) passed away at home on August 6, 2023. He is survived by his sons Paul Johns and his wife Kathi of Terre Haute; James Chowning and his wife Kelly, of Georgetown, KY, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Sullivan, IN on April 6, 1938 and was predeceased by his parents, Orval and Doris (Dehart) Chowning, sister Pat (Chowning) Vineyard, and brother John Chowning, and the love of his life, wife Lu Chowning, who passed into heaven in May. Mike and Lu were married April 5, 1975 and were married for 48 years. 

Mike served his country in the Army after graduating high school from Fairbanks School. He then worked for REMC in Sullivan until retirement, and then with his cousins at CCK Farms in Sullivan for many more years. He was a faithful child of God and served in several roles, including Deacon, at First Baptist Church in Shelburn, IN. 

Services will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Shelburn. Visitation 11-2pm with Service at 2pm, officiated by their beloved Pastor Ben Weatherington, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s honor to their church.
