Norman Wesley Hammer, 92, of Sullivan, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Cobblestone Health Campus in Terre Haute. He was born in Lake Forest, IL to Bertil and Willian (Eveleth) Hammer. Norman was a 1946 graduate of Michigan City Elston High School and graduated from DePauw University in 1952. After high school Norman joined the Navy and served from June 1, 1946 to March 31, 1948. After graduating from DePauw University, Norman co-founded Hammond and Hammer Public Accountants. He retired from Greggs and Reid CPAs. Norman enjoyed golfing with the Rinky Dinks, IU basketball, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the Sullivan First Baptist Church and the Sullivan Elks #911.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allan Hammer.
Norman is survived by his wife Shelby “Gail” (Harmon) Hammer, son Mark Hammer (Jeanette) of Greencastle, IN, step-sons, Ron Miller (Debbie) of Shelburn, IN, and Mike Miller of Shelburn, IN, daughters, Judith Smith of Nappanee, IN, and Joyce Warfield (Rod) of Tucson, AZ, special sister-in-law, LeAnne Huls, grandchildren, Marcy Gallagher (Dan), James Hammer (Heather), Jacob Smith (Mariah), Micalah Gibson (Chris), Danielle Ambrose, Nicole Hennecke (Mitch), and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rinky Dinks c/o Sullivan Elks. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Holmes memorial chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
