Patricia "Patty" Allsman Kirk

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patricia "Patty" Allsman Kirk, 90, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Harrison's Crossing Health Campus in Terre Haute. 

Patty was born in Carlisle on Aug. 29, 1933, to Joe Allsman and Eliza (Spencer) Allsman. She was a 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School and earned a degree from Indiana State Teachers College in 1955. Patty was a dedicated schoolteacher whose passion for education ignited the minds of countless students. She was also the town clerk and town trustee for several years. She was a member of the Carlisle First United Methodist Church. 

Beyond her profession, Patty was a loving mother and devoted wife, who cherished her family above all else. She nurtured her children with unwavering love and support, teaching them the values of kindness, resilience, and perseverance. Her home was a haven of love, laughter, and delicious homemade meals that created wonderful family memories. One of Patty's favorite pastimes was playing Yahtzee. Her competitive spirit and love for the game brought fun and friendly rivalry to many family game nights. Patty's stories, hugs, and gentle guidance were treasured by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reminding them of the importance of family bonds.

Patty will be deeply missed, but she will be remembered with love and gratitude for her kind heart, generous spirit, and ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. Though she has left us physically, her spirit will shine on in the hearts of all who knew her. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Kirk; a daughter, Beth Ann Kirk Williams; a brother, Chester Allsman; and a sister, Mary Ann Troth.

She is survived by her children, Jay Kirk (Linda) of Ohio, Becky Payne (Doug) of Terre Haute, and Maureen Kirk of Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda Conrad (Scott), Amy Herrold, Eliza Scherb, Stephen Payne, Danielle Payne, Rachel Kirk, and Joshua Kirk. Great-grandchildren, Carl, Cody, and Ciara Scherb, Blake Alford, Ella Conrad, Kaily, Hannah, Brandon, and Dakota Herrold, Kylee and Jaclyn Kirk; and great-great-granddaughter, Neveah Olivares Enriquez.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle. Following burial, a celebration of Patty's life will be held at the Carlisle United Methodist Church social room. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the American Diabetes Foundation in her honor.
